¡Buenos días de Alaska!

I arrived yesterday all in one piece but without any luggage which went for a little detour of its own. I had a restful night at the hostel here in Fairbanks after a long, tiring and emotional day. That day was extra long with the 4 hrs gained due to time difference, and also longer days. When I finally went to bed at 23h00, it was still daylight. Same as 3h00 when I woke up.

My 1st room here is something. More like one would expect in Guatemala. But I only paid $25 and slept fine. I don't have physical access to this PC - can't send pictures yet.

The 1st time I dreamed of visiting Alaska was when I lived in the Prairies in the early 90s, and a friend had just come back from a cruise along the Alaska/BC cost. And later, I saw Into the Wild, and read the book just a couple years ago. I’ve been hooked on seeing Alaska ever since.

I saw Mt. McKinley while flying from Anchorage to Fairbanks. It was perfectly white and beautiful.

This morning, I’ve just finished reassembling everything and I’m about to hit the road. There is something in the air here. I’m not sure how long this euphoria is going to last, but I survived my 1st day on the road and I feel great today. I’m so, so happy to finally be here.

I gotta go. There are 9 months of adventure ahead.

¡Que tengas un día maravilloso!

Unknown a dit...

Hello from Delta Junction, AK where we had the pleasure of hosting Guy after his first 100 miles of riding in Alaska. It was a pleasure to meet, hear his story and we're excited to follow his adventure. After a quick lesson of playing "horse-shoes" we played a game just to loosen up those muscles and help burn his dinner of "Rueben" sandwiches and strawberry dessert. We took a few pictures of the gang for his photo journal, put him to bed in the comfort of a riverside cabin, looking towards the Alaska Mountain Range. He departed Delta Junction at 0500 the next morning in route to Tok, AK. Best of luck for a safe journey! It was a pleasure to have you. Regards....Clint & Lisa Crusberg-Delta Junction,AK and Greg & Terran Duffield-Clovis, NM
